Overview of the Self-Storage Confidence Index
The Self-Storage Confidence Index (SSCI) measures what U.S. and Canadian self-storage business professionals in varied areas of our industry are anticipating about the economic conditions and trends that affect their business. Results are compiled quarterly from online surveys and illuminate next-quarter issues as well as longer-term trends.
Survey & Reporting Process
Self-storage business professionals from varying aspects of our industry are invited to participate in the quarterly SSCI survey.
- Participants – Participating self-storage professionals access an online survey via the SSCI Web site during the last month of each calendar quarter.
- Surveys – Two surveys are posted for each quarter. One is for self-storage business owner participants, and the other is for vendors supplying the industry. Surveys contain about seven questions and are designed to be completed in about five minutes. Questions deal with next-quarter expectations and include critical areas such as sales, profits, hiring, expenditures, and industry economic outlook.
- Results & Reporting – Once the survey is closed, the results are compiled, published and released in a tiered notification system. The first groups to receive notice of the results are survey participants, subscribers to the Messenger Xtra e-newsletter, and participating self-storage professionals. Results are then released to news outlets. Finally, the results will be posted on www.ministoragemessenger.com.
A Collective Effort
The Self-Storage Confidence Index is designed to provide self-storage business professionals with valuable insight into topical economic news and business trends with a directed effort on the U.S. as well as Canadian markets for owner/operators and vendors as two separate approaches.
